Continuing Care Retirement Communities, or CCRCs, are becoming an increasingly popular option for older adults who are living independent, active lifestyles, but who want the security and peace of mind of being cared for, when needed, throughout the aging process. They offer a combination of residential accommodations, health services and other amenities.
Residents commonly pay an entry fee, or purchase a residence, to join the community, with monthly maintenance fees thereafter. Usually, amenities such as meals, housekeeping, security, maintenance and transportation to outside community events are included in the cost.
What are the advantages of a CCRC?
The key advantage of a CCRC is that you have the opportunity to live independently, with the freedom to maintain your lifestyle, pursue your interests, and participate in a wealth of activities. However, during those times when you do need a little help, you have the peace of mind of having immediate access to a range of health services. Some, but not all, CCRCs also offer significant financial advantages, including the possibility of home ownership and equity preservation.
